4-2-3-1

4-2-3-1 : the formation that the world now plays (with the exception of England and New Zealand) produced the most boring World Cup since 1990 Italy. Outside the performances of Argentina, Germany and Diego Forlan this World Cup was dominated by a style of football that did not inspire.

Lets hope before Brazil 2014 a nation or team or individual can develop a style that brings back onfield brilliance. Right now football is a game for athletes, where have all the artists gone?

  1. Has the Physical progress of the players surpassed the field they play on? Say similar to the NBA or Tennis on grass?

    Club League football around the world is more open and more enjoyable to watch as there is less pressure to win every game.

    To bring back the artists you need to introduce technology for the refs by having;
    .2 refs
    .Managers allowed to appeal 3 decisions per game for TV replay, which type of decisions will have to be determined over weeks of negotiation
    .Players can be yellow/red carded after any game after TV review by the referee board
    .Any player that is determined to dive should be suspended for 20 games with 15% salary fine
    .Hand Ball on the line should be penalty goal
    .The disfunction of players on corner kicks can be easily eliminated by awarding penalty kicks, after 3 months it will be eliminated.

    But FIFA and UEFA are too disconnected from the fans and hence the game for this to happen.

    I don't like the NFL but they know how to manage the product on the field, soccer is 20 years behind the NFL and has a lot of catching up to do.
